Rugby St. Andrews is one of several rugby clubs that are thriving in Rugby, the town that gave birth to the game of rugby when, in 1823, William Webb Ellis - a pupil at Rugby School - first ran with the ball in his arms "thus originating the distinctive feature of the Rugby game"
"The Saints" was formed almost 80 years ago, and moved to its current location on Ashlawn Road in 1981. It currently fields three Seniors teams, and has a Minis & Juniors Section that spans all ages from 6 year olds through to the Seniors.
The Seniors play on Saturday afternoons from September through to April. The First Team are currently near the top of the Midland 4 East (South) Division, with the Second Team playing in the Warwickshire 2nd Team Division 2. The Third Team are a Development Squad that play friendly matches most weekends throughout the season. You can find details of the current league position and team selections on the News Page.
The Minis & Juniors play to the "RFU Rugby Continuum" to introduce rugby skills safely as the children develop, starting with tag rugby for the Under 7's, and progressing into full contact 15-a-side by the time the children are in the Under 13 squad.
The Minis & Juniors meet each Sunday morning during the season, and alternate training with matches against friendly local sides. The coaches encourage all players, whatever their background or ability, to participate so that they can develop their skills and fitness, and above all else enjoy the opportunity to be part of a team.
Whether you are new to the game, an active player or have fond memories of playing and would like to re-live those days, you'll find St. Andrews to be a friendly club, offering the widest opportunity to play. Even if you're only interested in 'taking a look' we'd love to see you. There'll be no hard-sell, and you can see what goes on with a cup of tea and a bacon roll.
