Shipston kicked off driving Andrews back. Some excellent
tackles by Jo in the mid-field held them off but Shipston
drove through to score their first try. Andrews kicked off with a deep ball
chased by the forwards. Dan, Sean and Mat H battled on the Shipston
22 and it was Andrews that secured the ball pushing it out to Sean who drove
over the line to score his first try of the season. Shipston
responded well driving through the forwards to score their second try on half
time.
Andrews
kicked off for the second half and the game was close. Andrews’ scrummages got better as the forwards’ team play
improved. Scrum-half Matty worked hard securing ball
and passing wide to Sam, Jo and David in the centre. Wingers Sam, Aidan and Tom
closed down the space and tackled well denying Shipston
ground. Five minutes from time Andrews rucked
the ball on half way. Matt choose to pick and go
pushing forward. Andrews secured the ball in the resulting breakdown going wide
to Sam who found space and using his pace scored for the Andrews. Our thanks to Shipston who loaned 3
players to allow Andrews to play a full squad.
The
captains were Poppy, Lucy, Joel and Libby. The team gelled well
because all players were having fun, and the scorers were Joel and Cameron. Man of the match was Callum.
A great way to start the season and put all the summer
training in to practise; the Andews Under 8's set off
to Shipston and enjoyed a great day of
hospitality and some fantastic rugby.
With numbers limited Shipston kindly loaned the
Andrews 3 players Freya, Ted & Jack. We are currently checking our funds
with the view to offering a permanent transfer as all three showed amazing
commitment, stamina and skill. Player
of the week goes to Freya for her amazing running, leadership, tagging and all
round play.
A close game with end-to-end rugby. Some tricky moves and super running kept
the Andrews in the game but a few slipped tags gave Shipston
the break away they needed to clinch the game.

The Andrews displayed some amazing support play, building on
their strengths from the 1st match. Tagging was much improved, which made for a
gripping game and plenty of turnover ball for both sides.

A well balanced game which, again,
displayed some really promising skill and ability from all the young players.
With every score the opposition would respond and attack the Andrews try line.

The 1st half was evenly matched. Once again the Andrews tricky moves and brilliant support play kept us in
the game. With Ted shouting out his orders, keeping the team in rank
and Freya's amazing run, the length of the pitch, we entered the 2nd half,
exhausted, but level on the scores. A fumbled pass handed the ball to Broadstreet who seized the opportunity and ran home a try.
Fatigued, the Andrews kept their heads high and fought on, but were unable to
hold back the Broadstreet attack
