The seconds had their first outing of the season made up of a number of Vets with a sprinkling of youth as a squad of 30 players was assembled. Scheduled opponents Barker Butts dropped out on Friday morning and a hastily arranged fixture with Rugby Welsh was arranged after their league opponents could not raise a side. The game was played on the 1st team pitch prior to the league game against Rugby Lions to give local rugby supporters two local derbies back to back which helped to generate a large crowd. In the end, the Saints were no match for a strong Rugby Welsh side but gave their all and stuck at it with forwards working hard, but the pace Rugby Welsh showed in the back line and in open play gave them ample opportunities to run at the Saints defence crossing for a number of tries.
